Jay S. Duker, MD, is the Director of the New England Eye Center (NEEC) and Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Tufts Medical Center and the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. The New England Eye Center is one of the largest academic ophthalmology departments in the United States. Dr. Duker received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. He completed residency and fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and ocular oncology at the Wills Eye Hospital. His clinical practice is limited to medical and surgical diseases of the posterior segment with particular emphasis on macular diseases, posterior uveitis, and intraocular tumors. He has published over 325 journal articles: his major research interests include retinal imaging, retinal vascular diseases, and drug delivery to the posterior segment. He has received the Honor, Senior Honor, and Life Achievement awards from the American Academy of Ophthalmology as well as the Honor and Senior Honor awards from the America Society of Retina Specialists. His book, Yanoff and Duker’s Ophthalmology, now in its 5th edition, is one of the bestselling ophthalmic texts over the past three decades. In addition, he has served as editor for another 6 ophthalmology textbooks. Dr. Duker serves as the co-editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Retina and Vitreous (IJRV). He is a founder and director of a clinical stage biotechnology company, Hemera Biosciences, which is developing gene therapy treatment for macular degeneration. In addition, he is a Director of EyePoint Pharma and Sesen Bio.
